What is an E-vignette?
An E-vignette (electronic vignette) is a digital toll pass that replaces traditional adhesive vignettes. It is linked to your vehicle’s registration plate and allows you to use toll motorways in certain European countries.
Unlike physical vignettes, an E-vignette does not need to be displayed on the windscreen: it is stored in a database and checked automatically by enforcement systems.
In which countries can I use an E-vignette?
E-vignettes are available in several European countries, including:
- Austria
- Switzerland
- Slovenia
- Czech Republic
- Slovakia
Each country has its own rules and prices. See our dedicated country pages for more information.
What is the difference between an E-vignette and a toll tag?
An E-vignette is a prepaid toll pass for a fixed period (10 days, 2 months, 1 year, etc.), whereas a toll tag pays tolls as you drive, trip by trip.
An E-vignette suits occasional trips or holidays; a toll tag is better for frequent drivers.
Where can I buy an E-vignette?
You can buy an E-vignette directly on our website, where you can choose the country, validity period and enter your vehicle details.
Other options include official government sites for each country, some petrol stations near borders and self-service machines at motorway service areas.
However, buying on our site gives you a streamlined interface, dedicated customer support and fast order processing.
Which payment methods are accepted?
We accept several payment methods for a smooth, secure checkout:
- Cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express
- Digital wallets: PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay
All payments are protected with SSL encryption and advanced security protocols.
Can I buy a vignette for a vehicle that is not mine?
Yes, you can buy an E-vignette for a vehicle you do not own.
At purchase, simply enter the registration plate of the vehicle concerned.
This is useful for gifting a vignette, buying for a colleague or managing a professional fleet.
Please note: once issued, some changes (such as changing the plate) may not be possible or may incur fees.
When should I buy my vignette?
We recommend buying your E-vignette before you travel, ideally a few days in advance, to avoid stress or administrative delays.
In most countries the vignette is valid immediately after purchase or from the start date you select.
However, some rules require a waiting period after purchase (for example, Austria requires 18 minutes before activation).
Always check the specific rules for the country concerned before you buy.
How do I receive my purchase confirmation?
After payment you will receive a confirmation email including:
- Payment receipt
- Your E-vignette details (country, period, vehicle registration)
- A link to check your vignette validity online
In some cases you may also receive an SMS confirmation.
If you do not receive confirmation, check your spam folder or contact our support.
Is my purchase secure?
Yes, your purchase is fully secure. We use advanced protection to keep your personal and payment data confidential and intact:
- SSL encryption: protects your data in transit
- 3D Secure: extra authentication to reduce fraud
- Secure hosting: infrastructure aligned with European data protection standards
We never store your full card details; transactions are processed through certified international payment providers.
When does my vignette become valid?
Validity depends on the country and product you choose. In most cases it is valid immediately after purchase or from the start date you select.
Note: some countries, such as Austria, require 18 minutes between purchase and activation.
How can I check that my vignette is valid?
You can check validity at any time on our website by entering your registration plate and country.
You will also receive a confirmation email with a verification link after purchase.
Can I use my vignette on several vehicles?
No. Each E-vignette is tied to one specific registration plate and only that vehicle.
If you have several vehicles, you need a separate vignette for each.
What are the specific rules in Austria?
In Austria, the E-vignette (“Digitale Vignette”) is mandatory on all motorways and expressways. It is available for several durations: 10 days, 2 months or 1 year.
Important: a 18-minute delay applies between purchase and activation.
How does the Swiss vignette work?
The Swiss vignette is annual and mandatory on all motorways and semi-motorways. It is valid from 1 December of the previous year to 31 January of the following year.
Unlike some other countries, Switzerland does not offer short-term vignettes.
Is a vignette required in every European country?
No. Not all European countries use a vignette system. Countries such as France, Italy or Spain mainly use distance-based tolling.
Countries that use vignettes include Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Can I cancel my order?
You may cancel within 14 days of purchase provided the vignette has not yet been activated or used.
To request cancellation, contact customer support with your order number.
How do I get a refund?
If your cancellation is accepted, the refund will be made to the same payment method used for purchase, within about 5–10 business days.
Processing fees may apply under the general terms of sale.
I made a mistake on my registration plate — what should I do?
If you entered the wrong plate, contact customer support immediately. Depending on the country and vignette status, a correction may be possible.
Some changes may incur extra fees or require buying a new vignette.
How are checks carried out?
Checks are often automated using cameras on motorways. They read registration plates and verify instantly whether a valid vignette is linked to the vehicle.
Police may also carry out manual checks.
What are the fines if I drive without a vignette?
Fines vary by country:
- Austria: up to €240
- Switzerland: CHF 200 plus mandatory purchase of the vignette
- Slovenia: €300 to €800
- Czech Republic: up to 5,000 CZK
You should therefore buy your vignette before using the relevant motorways.
I received a fine although my vignette was valid — what should I do?
If you were fined despite having a valid vignette, contact our support immediately with:
- Your order number
- A copy of the fine
- Proof of vignette validity
We will help you challenge the fine with the relevant authorities.
